Anti Welfare Special Interests Series

In the spirit of this blog’s pro welfare theme a new series of posts will be introduced. Every week or other week, MtlEconomist will be posting a denunciation of the worst economic welfare offender. Exposés of special interest groups and protected industries will attempt to fill the gap between common knowledge or lack thereof and fact about some of the institutions and companies most guilty of spreading crony capitalism and the like. Sparking debate and increasing knowledge of the systems most deceitful rentiers will be the first mission of this series.

As their are certainly more crony capitalists (or even crony socialists) than any one person can know of, readers are encouraged to email the blog at contact.mtleconomist@gmail.com with their own stories of deceitful institutions and persons they’d like to see exposed.

Dairy Farmers or Wolves in Cow’s Clothing

Ottawa. FDR used to say that the American farmer was the backbone of America. Likewise in many European countries the agricultural lifestyle is considered like a cultural legacy worth protecting. Canada has not escaped this neurotic infatuation with farmers. One needs to look no further than the advertising campaigns by Quebec dairy farmers to get an idea of how important to society they believe themselves to be. In Canada a more governmentally coddled group of individuals cannot be found, nor a less politically bullying. Continue reading…

Air Canada Hates Canada?

Toronto. Once upon a time, Air Canada was a great national symbol of Canada. After the pioneering railways and the country binding arrival of the telephone air line travel was the next great medium of communication and transport that was to bind the country together. Behing the Canadian symbolism that Air Canada represents lays a disingenuous character. Continue reading…

One Response to Anti Welfare Special Interests Series

  1. D R Peterson Carpenter says:

*** If Social Services are Enough, Apparently Your Mothers are Buying Your Groceries. ***

Here’s a better break down for the US of A:

    1 Adult & 1 Child

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) [5 yr Benefit Limit {NOT lifetime}]

    $385

    Requirements:
Participate in WorkFirst Program 32 hrs a wk. Includes attending all workshops, daily job search and application submission. Must check in daily.
After 30 days, participants are required to “work” a job assigned by WorkFirst, usually at Local Govt or State Agency.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) [used to be food stamps]

    $367

OK,for a total of $752 mo. a participant must put in 128 hrs a month of ‘work”.

    That is $5.85 an hour.

That is a good wage for a teenager living at home but for a Parent & Child it IS NOT a LIVABLE WAGE! (What State worker gets $5.85 an hr?)

What about the necessary time to get trained and start a good job, there is not any, unless you want someone else to raise your child, (Ann Romney wouldn’t)
